


Customers have a variety of fare options to suit their travel needs. Paying the cash fare of $2.00 on transit services is the simplest way to ride, however tickets, tokens and passes offer additional savings. To ride aboard Regional Rail, cash, a ticket or a pass are accepted forms of payment.

The Independence Pass is ideal for individuals or families looking for the independence of convenient, economical and unlimited one-day travel on SEPTA services. Occasional riders, visitors and families can travel on SEPTA to restaurants, shopping, casinos, sporting events and other attractions in the Greater Philadelphia region.
Prices for the pass are $11.00 for an individual pass and $28.00 for the family pass. One family of up to five people traveling together may use one pass, however one person, but no more than two, must be 18 years of age or older. Customers using Regional Rail to or from New Jersey will pay an additional charge of $5.00 per individual pass and $15.00 per family pass in each direction you travel.
Independence Pass holders benefit from unlimited travel aboard these services:
- Bus
- Subway
- Trolley
- Regional Rail*
- PHLASH, seasonal between May 1 and October 31
- Mann Center Summer Bus Service

Regional Rail On-Board Purchase Option: Tell the conductor that you want an Individual or Family Independence Pass. If you are traveling only on Regional Rail, the cash fare receipt will serve as the Independence Pass for any train you board. If you plan on using bus, subway or trolley service, bring the cash fare receipt to a SEPTA Ticket or Sales Office and exchange it for the Independence Pass at no additional cost.
The pass is sold at all Regional Rail Ticket Offices, SEPTA Sales Offices, the Transit Museum Store, the Sales Office at 1234 Market Street, select newsstands and online at shop.SEPTA.org. Customers have the freedom to purchase this pass in advance for whenever you decide to have a day or night out.

SEPTA’s Commuter’s Choice offers four programs for employers who want to provide transit discounts for their workers. And now the Federal Tax Code 132F allows for employees to receive double the savings as a tax-free benefit. Let your staff know how much you value their efforts by increasing their benefits package at little cost to you. Help them get to work stress-free on SEPTA with more money in their pockets. By offering a Commuter’s Choice program, employers save up to $166.00 per employee in FICA-related taxes annually. Employees save up to $709.00 in Federal and FICA taxes.
ComPass
With ComPass, employees save 10% on SEPTA monthly passes that are delivered to the worksite for easy distribution. SEPTA provides a 5% discount and the company must match that discount to make a total of 10% off the face value of a SEPTA monthly pass.
SEPTA delivers the passes to your company in time to distribute them to employees. Your employees will appreciate this convenience and the entire amount of their monthly pass can come out of their pay pre-tax for an additional savings. Transit Check
TransitChek vouchers can be used to purchase fares on all regional public transit including: SEPTA, PATCO, NJ Transit, DART and Amtrak. TransitCheks can be delivered to your company, or for home delivery, opt for TransitChek Select. The TransitChek program helps employers reduce the cost of their employee’s commute in three flexible ways:
- Employers can give employees TransitCheks in addition to salary, as part of their benefits package.
- Employers can allow employees to purchase TransitCheks through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Employees can set aside up to $230 a month from federal income tax and FICA taxes, saving them hundreds of dollars over the course of the year. And, employers can save up to $200 on the matching FICA taxes.
